Calabria Tourists Accommodation

Calabria is well defined in both its physical and
geographical  contours and under certain aspects, quite different from the neighboring regions, goes to make up the most-southern tip of the Italian peninsula lying between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian sea.

The area is almost total covered by mountains and joined to the rest of Italy by the Pollino massif.

The region is renowned for its costal beauty made up of high cliffs with sheer drops into a crystal clear sea, tiny coves and long wide golden beaches.
The Sila and Aspromonte mountain offer a wide variety of landscape.

Adding to this beauty is the charm of a historical and artistic heritage of enormous interest.

COSENZA
It is one of the most populated provinces in Italy and the eighth for extension. With its 367 miles of coast, the Province of Cosenza occupies 44.1% of the surface of Calabria, essentially the entire central and northern part of the region.
Everything is characterized by great variety, even from coast to coast and on every massif.
In the Middle Ages, this land was conquered by the Byzantines, who brought benefits to the economy of the territory with the introduction of new agricultural techniques, sericultural production, and the promotion of social aggregation.
The results are still evident in the elegant and refined architecture, as well as those of the Normans, the Angevins, the Aragonese and the Spaniards, who all left their mark in the following centuries.
CROTONE
The Province of Crotone overlooking the Ionian sea was founded in 1992 by separating part of the territory of Catanzaro on the east and Cosenza on the north-west.
The sea area of Capo Rizzuto is the most extensive of Italy, Eight promontories limit the protected area, the first of which, Capocolonna, represents a real archaeological deposit, evidence of the glorious splendors of the Magna Graecia.
Here rises the only remaining Doric column of the famous temple dedicated to the goddess Hera Lacinia.
On a small island coasting the protected area, one reaches Punta Le Castella with the Byzantine fortress.
CATANZARO
Greeks called the inhabitants of this area "Italoi," referring to King Italo that, according to legend, descended fromm the Trojans.
Under the Emperor Augustus the entirety of Calabria was called Italia, name eventually given to the rest of the Peninsula. The Province is delimited in the north by the Sila and in the south by the Serre Calabresi.
The central part is formed by the Isthmus of Catanzaro, a narrow valley of nearly 18.6 mi that joins the two coasts of the Gulf of Squillace and of Sant'Eufemia, and which is also the narrowest point on the entire Italian peninsula.
Today the most famous area lies between Catanzaro and Soverato, in the center of the Gulf of Squillace: here, marvelous rocks alternate with long, white beaches.
It overlooks two seas: the Ionian on the east and the Tyrrhenian on the west. In the north it borders with the Province of Cosenza, in the northeast with Crotone, in the south with Reggio Calabria and in the southwest with the Province of Vibo Valentia.
VIBO VALENTIA
The Province which was estabilished in 1992 extends over the Tyrrhenian coast and through the Serre Mountains. and it owes its charm to the cobalt blue sea and the verdant plateaus backdropped of the mountains.
Vibo Valentia is a little peninsula on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its roots are lost in Antiquity; a city of culture, it offers beautiful, untamed places alive with history.
Originally the Greek colony of Hypponion until 192 AD.
The pure natural landscape has been cultivated only by the hands of local farmers. Vibo Valentia's spectacular panoramic views span from orderly, yet shady olive groves and scented cornfields to orange and lemon groves offering their aromatic fruits all year long. As one moves place to place, it is easy to make one charming discovery after another.
For instance, the Costa degli Dei, a rugged coastline full of rocky inlets and sandy spots, noentheless is never the same,
REGGIO DI CALABRIA
Known in the past as Calabria Ulteriore Prima, the Province of Reggio Calabria has the
highest population density in the Region.
The terrain is characterized by thick woods of chestnuts, beeches, holm oaks and white firs thatalternate with the olive and vine cultivations, centuries-old torrents and overhanging coastal cliffs covered by ferns, brooms, strawberry trees, myrtles, oleander and cactus pears.
And the coast between Villa Sand Giovanni and Gioiosa Ionica is the ideal habitat for the cultivation of the bergamot.
The biggest torrent of the grecanic area is the Amendolea, which flows in Condofuri Marina, drawing an enormous silver band of pebbles coasted by citrus trees and broom.
The Locride area is also full of torrents, as is La Verde, between Bianco and Samo, characterized by spectacular gorges.
Most of the area of Reggio is formed by the National Park of Aspromonte
